30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Belarus and Israel

26.05.2022

On May 26, 1992, Belarus and Israel established diplomatic relations. Today we celebrate their 30th anniversary.

During this time, Belarus and Israel have maintained traditionally friendly, warm and open relations.
Their foundation is the centuries-old history of neighborly residence of Belarusians and Jews on Belarusian soil.

Belarus is proud that many of our compatriots stood at the origins of Israeli statehood and made a significant contribution to its development — from direct participation in government to the revival of modern Hebrew.
Belarus-born ninth President of Israel Shimon Peres once wrote in the autobiography of the first President of Israel, Chaim Weizmann, also a native of Belarus: “Israel was born in Belarus. Most of our great figures, writers and artists began their lives in the Belarusian cradle.”

Our friendship is tempered by the common memory and pain of the tragedy of the Second World War and the Holocaust, as well as genetic intolerance to any manifestations of national or racial discrimination.

After the war, Belarus, both a republic within the USSR and an independent member of the UN, was one of the first to support the creation of a Jewish state, and a number of immigrants from our country signed the Israeli Declaration of Independence.
In turn, in the early 90s, Israel was among the first countries to recognize the independence of the new Belarusian state.

Since then, starting practically from scratch, a long way has been passed in the development of bilateral relations.
